Life after death on Facebook

To deactivate or not?

What would happen to our own Facebook account when we pass on? The article from NST on 26th July suggested that cyber accounts should be cancelled when someone died. The author gave an example where one of her friend just received a torrent of birthday messages on his FB wall, a month after his departure from this world. Many might not have a thought on our virtual life after death.

For example: pictures, graphics, videos, emails, status updates, comments, opinions, observations, reviews, music and personal data on Facebook, Gmail, Blogger, YouTube, Flickr, Twitter, Tumblr etc. What will happen to these "possessions" when we die? Do we give our loved ones the access to our accounts while we are alive? Or do we put the passwords down in our will?
